Product overview
This digital service activates Apple CarPlay on compatible BMW vehicles equipped with an EntryNav2 head unit, also commonly referred to as EntryEvo.
Apple CarPlay provides access to supported iPhone applications, navigation, calls, messages and audio functions through the vehicle display and iDrive controls.
Compatibility requirements
EntryNav2 head units were manufactured in different hardware versions. Some units include WLAN hardware and a Wi-Fi antenna output, while other versions do not.
Apple CarPlay activation is possible only when the installed head unit has a compatible HWEL version marked as WLAN in the relevant platform compatibility table.
A head unit without WLAN hardware cannot support Apple CarPlay through software activation because the required Wi-Fi antenna output is not present.
Required
- Last seven characters of the vehicle VIN
- You need to check which HWEL version you have.
- You need to check if the Wi-Fi antenna is installed; if there is a WLAN connector for it, it must be installed, otherwise the iPhone will not connect.
The vehicle model, chassis or production year alone is not sufficient to confirm compatibility. Vehicles of the same model may contain different EntryNav2 hardware versions.
How the service works
After receiving the required vehicle and head-unit information, the HWEL version is checked against the compatibility table.
If the installed head unit contains compatible WLAN hardware, the applicable Apple CarPlay activation method and installation instructions will be provided. No physical product is shipped.
